Knowehead Farm - Barn Owl Survey

We recently completed a Barn Owl survey at the site of an old steadings which was in various states of disrepair. The owners have plans to rebuild or refurbish the buildings however, nature has moved in during the period where the buildings have not been regularly used therefore surveys for protected species and Barn Owl were a condition of planning. We completed a Barn Owl survey under licence at the site during the breeding season. Evidence of previous breeding birds was found during the survey, but not in the present season and no birds were seen on site during a night time watch. It was recommended to the client that a Barn Owl box be installed on site should the owls return during works and further survey may be necessary depending on the time taken to complete the works. This enabled works on the site to proceed which was crucial as part of the roof was beginning to cave in.
