Early Birds Tour
Length: 2-3 hours
Best time of year: Spring and Summer
Best time of day: Pre-dawn start
Possible species: Black Grouse, Red Grouse, Curlew, Lapwing, Common Gull, Snipe, Reed Bunting, Meadow Pipit, Wheatear, Red Kite, Buzzard, Raven, Short-eared Owl, Hen Harrier and Kestrel. Also possible: Red and Roe Deer, Rabbit and Brown Hare.
Most birds are active in the early morning but some like the Black Grouse are real dawn specialists. This is the best time to see them at their display leks before they disperse for the day. We would hope for a supporting cast of drumming Snipe and bubbling Curlew as well as Hen Harrier emerging from their overnight roost (early Spring).
