Natural Narratives #3 - The Bough Breaks

By Evelyn Schreiner the 03/12/2024

Thank you to everyone who attended our third natural narratives session on the 29th of November 2024, where we hosted a screening of The Bough Breaks by Mousehole Films. We hope you enjoyed the film and the in-depth Q&A afterwards with the accomplished filmmakers, Caroline Strong and Danny Strong who gave such great insight into the world of environmental filmmaking and rewilding as a whole.

The Bough Breaks explores the work of visionary conservationist, Alan Watson Featherstone, to restore Scotland’s ancient Caledonian forest, and ‘Rewilding’ as a model of restoration in the fight to save our broken planet. It covers thought-provoking topics such as shifting baseline syndrome, predator reintroduction, and empowering individual actions when it comes to rewilding and ecosystem restoration, among many others. For many of us watching, it was a moving experience, bringing emotions to the forefront and encouraging us to imagine a more hopeful future for Scotland’s landscape and wildlife. We are so pleased we were able to bring this beautiful film to Perthshire communities and to foster meaningful conversations!

Sandison Hall was decked out for the holidays, creating a festive and cozy atmosphere for the screening. Freshly made salted popcorn was provided for everyone who attended!

We have three more Natural Narratives sessions scheduled, taking place on the last Friday of every month (apart from December) ending in March 2025. All sessions are free and will cover a range of talks, screenings, and activities with an emphasis on environmental themes. Our goal is to stimulate discussion in an informal way, socialise, and bring communities across Strathearn together. If you enjoyed this session, keep an eye out for our next natural narratives event which will take place on the 31st of January. We will be welcoming Elliot McCandless from the Beaver Trust who will give a talk about beavers and strategies for co-existing alongside them. We hope to see you then!

See you next time!
